    Mindy Asked

Hi! We are coming to WDW and will be there over New Year's. What are some ideas to celebrate the evening? I have a 6 year old daughter. All 3 of us want to have a blast! Thanks so much!

I don't think you'll have to worry too much about having a blast at Walt Disney World, Mindy; that's their specialty!  What I would advise you to do, though, is think twice about spending the holiday evening inside one of the theme parks.  The week between Christmas and New Years is a very popular time to visit and parks are known to close for capacity.  Being sandwiched between all those people isn't my idea of a good time!  I would recommend maybe having fun from afar.  You might consider spending the day at Downtown Disney.  Options for fun there are plentiful and include a movie theater, indoor interactive theme park, and lots of shops and restaurants.  Come evening time, you might head over to Disney's BoardWalk for dinner and a spin on a surrey bike.  They have free entertainment there as well.  Or--to plus up the festivities--you might opt for a character meal instead or a visit to the fabulous Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue.  If you went that route, you could follow dinner with a sleigh ride through Fort Wilderness to get a glimpse of the elaborate holiday light displays the campers put up (call 407-WDW-PLAY for more information).  To cap off the day, grab a spot on the beach at Disney's Polynesian resort for prime (crowd-free!) viewing of the special holiday fireworks show.  Heeding my advice might not put you in the center of the action in the parks, but I think it would make for a magical start to 2013!  I hope that helps.
