i am coming after Thanksgiving with a D5 that loves all characters and a S22mo. that is terrified. We have lots of character meals planned. Any ideas on how to give them both what they need and a pleasurable experience for mom and dad?

    Hi Keri,

I've been in your situation, and it can get a little tricky when one child is terrified of characters - especially when they are coming right up to your table.  However, I have to say that the cast members at Walt Disney World do their very best to put your frightened child at ease.  When a character comes up to the table, explain that you have a little one who is a bit nervous.  The characters will probably attempt to win them over by playing peek-a-boo or acting silly with the rest of the party.

At the beginning of our last vacation, our youngest was terrified of the characters.  We had a character meal scheduled for every day of our trip, so you can imagine that we were a little worried when she was in tears every time Goofy stopped at our table that first day.

About halfway through the trip Chip won her over, and she had absolutely no fears after that.  Just be patient and have fun.  Let your five year old hug the characters, get autographs and have a great time.  Your little one can keep them at a distance if necessary.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!
