    Mary from Scotland Asked

Hi we are coming here September this year and was wondering if I can get help I am coming with my daughter who is diabetic this is our first holiday since she got diagnosed a year ago is there help for her if need be?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Mary. Thanks for stopping by with your question. I’m sorry to hear that your daughter was recently diagnosed with diabetes, but what better place to spend your first holiday than the Happiest Place on Earth!

As a pediatric nurse, I have taken care of numerous children with diabetes. Rest assure, you and your daughter are in “good hands” at the Disneyland Resort. There are registered nurses at the First Aid locations at both Disneyland Park and California Adventure. You will also be able to store any medicines (such as insulin) that need refrigeration there as well. The weather in September can still be fairly warm in Southern California and I highly recommend staying hydrated. Be sure to bring along her glucometer and plenty of test strips to prepare for fluctuations in blood sugar level. You’ll also find sharps containers in restrooms in the parks, as well as in all Guest rooms of Disneyland Resort hotels.

There are plenty of dining places throughout both parks to grab snacks to prevent hypoglycemia. Due to your daughter’s medical needs, you can bring along small amount of snacks and juices for a quick boost.

It may seem daunting and scary to venture for the first time so far away from home as a fairly new diabetic. With good planning, you’ll find that you can have an enjoyable time as a family at the Disneyland Resort (or anywhere, really, for that matter!)

I hope you’ll find this information helpful, Mary. Please visit me on the Panel if you have further questions!

    Happy planning,

Meet the Panelist: Kiki, California

I am a wife and mother to 2 children, a 14 year old daughter and 9 year old son. I have always enjoyed going to Disneyland Resort as a child and now that I am a mother, I love watching my children experience Disneyland Resort through their eyes. It is a true delight seeing my daughter wear a ball gown walking side by side with Cinderella or my son jumping gleefully after he defeated Darth Maul in a light saber duel! Learn More About Kiki
