hi there, We are coming on our first trip to Disney!! My son is 8yrs and he really wants to do the African Trek ?? He is pretty tall so no worries on the height requirements but My husband and I are trying to decide if for the money is it best to do it .

    Hi Tammy!

A first trip to Disney World is always super exciting and it sounds like you are looking at some amazing options.
I did the Wild Africa Trek with my 8-year-old son and he had a BLAST! Our guides paid special attention to him which made him feel extra special.

Disney has done an excellent job with this tour. All you have to do is show up wearing the proper shoes and clothing and bring your IDs and they take care of everything else. They take candid shots and posed photos along the way for you but will take a picture of anything you want - just ask. The hiking involved isn't strenuous. The encounters with the hippos and crocodiles are great. They provide a lot of information and you can ask as many questions as you'd like along the way. My son loved the two rope bridges which is right up an adventurous 8-year old ally.

When you've finished hiking, you board a private Safari truck and head out on the Kilimanjaro Safaris. This is way better than the regular Safari because you get to pull over and take your time looking at the animals. Your guides will take great photos of the animals and provide binoculars. They will point out things to you would probably never notice on the regular safari. You learn about the animals you see and how many of them came to Animal Kingdom and how they are related to each other. You stop for an African inspired snack along the way overlooking the beautiful Savannah.

Part of the cost of the Wild Africa Trek goes to the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund. At the end of the Trek, you'll receive a rock and drop it in a box indicating which project you'd like your donation to go towards. I got a little misty eyed.

I think the Wild Africa Trek was totally worth the price. It was exciting, educational and provided some great bonding time with my son. And guess what he wanted to do as soon as we were finished? Ride Kilimanjaro Safaris!

Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison V.
