Captain Mickey with Mom and son

The closer we get to our first cruise, the more questions I have! :) We would like to have our 14yo son accompany our 7yo to a character meet & greet because hubby and I will be in an onboard experience at the only time available. Will this be allowed?

    Welcome aboard, Ericka!

Thanks so much for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question.

As a mom of two girls who have grown up going on Disney Cruise Line vacations, I remember all the questions I had before our very first cruise. There's so much to see and do on a Disney Cruise, and I'm sure you want to make sure you're getting to experience as much of the magic as possible!

When my girls were little, I only felt comfortable being away from them on the ship if they were safely checked in to one of the Youth Clubs, where I knew they were in the care of the well-trained Youth Counselors. As they've gotten older and more responsible, we tend to give them a bit more freedom on the ship. If you feel comfortable leaving your little one in the care of your 14-year-old, it would certainly be allowed for your children to attend a Character Meet and Greet while you and your husband enjoy your onboard experience. You'll want to make sure your kids know their way around the ship, including how to get to and from your stateroom, as many of the hallways and doors look very similar. As a mom of a 14-year-old, I know she would be more than capable of taking care of a younger sibling and handling a Character Greeting without me. It really depends on the maturity level of your child, and your comfort level with your kids navigating their way around the ship!

I hope this helps with your planning. Have a magical day! - Diane W.
