If we choose to stay off Disney property, do we need to purchase magic bands for our trip? Also, can we still book a character dining reservation without the dining plan?

    Hi Kimberly,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel and thank you for asking us a question!

While you can definitely choose to purchase MagicBands for your party if you don’t stay in a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, you don’t have to do so. The Theme Park Tickets that you’ve purchased should be Admission Cards that you can either have shipped to your home or that you can pick up at at a Guest Relations ticket window. You’ll then be able to use those cards not only to gain access to the Theme Parks that you’ll choose to visit during your stay, but also in order to use any FastPass+ selections that you may choose to make. As an aside, I strongly encourage you to make them up to 30 days in advance of your visit!

To answer your second question, yes, you can absolutely enjoy any character dining experience at Walt Disney World Resort, even if you haven’t purchased a Disney Dining Plan. In fact, my family seldom purchases a dining plan, but we typically enjoy at least one meal surrounded by Disney characters during all of our visits.

Please don’t hesitate to come back and see us if you have any other questions about your upcoming vacation!

    Have a Magical Day,
