Hi! My children are now ages 13 and 10 which require an adult price for a dining plan but are far from eating an adult amount of food. What is the average savings a a dining plan versus paying out of pocket? We are trying to decide the best budget option.

    Hi Karen,

This is a great question and one that is not so easy to answer. This is one reason why we have not used the dining plan in the past.

I think the dining plan is great if you have children under 9 as the price of the plan for them is like getting a table service almost for free. It is great if you have big eaters who like appetizers and desserts. It is also great for those who like to dine at finer restaurants and the dining plan is like a prix fixe option because you pre-pay for the meal.

For an adult, the basic plan (1 counter service, 1 table service and 1  snack) is about $60 a day. The quick service (2 quick service meals and 1 snack) is about $41.

I recommend that you look at the menus on Disney's website and draft a "menu" of what you would eat for one day. Look at the price for that menu and base your decision off of this.

I think for your situation you would do best to go a la carte for this trip.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
