A Ride in the Teacups

I have a child with special needs and he sometimes gets anxiety. We've been to the parks before and he will be excited to ride a ride until he realizes that he must sit by himself. Are there special accommodations for this?

Hi there, Marcy! Thanks for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

When I read your question, I immediately began going through all the attractions at the Disneyland Resort in my head to create a list of which ones you might want to skip in order to avoid any anxiety. I only came up with one attraction in which riders ride alone: Silly Symphony Swings. However, there are a few tandem swings available so you could potentially ride with your son. I also thought about King Arthur Carrousel and King Triton's Carousel, but both have one or more benches available to sit, or adults can stand next to a child who is riding on a horse or sea creature. So I think your son would be delighted to discover that he can ride with someone, or several people, on the vast majority of the attractions at the parks! Another tip to ease his mind would be to watch attraction videos online so he has an idea what to expect during your visit.

If you still think you might need additional assistance, the Services for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities page is a great resource to learn about available accommodations and ways to prepare. You can also contact Disability Services directly at Disability.Services@DisneyParks.com or call (407) 560-2547 to discuss your needs in advance.

I hope this information was helpful. Have a magical visit to the Happiest Place on Earth!
