We have an only child and are concerned about her having fun with my husband and I. Going on rides with Mommy & Daddy would be different then with peers. Is there anything like ride companions or places where she can interact with peers.

    Hi Colleen,

I think you are selling your self a little short, a trip to Disney World is a great time for the whole family and I am sure your daughter will love this opportunity to have mom and dad all to herself without the stress of work, school, homework, cleaning house and all those other daily interruptions. Afterall, Disney is the one place where even adults are free to act like kids and make their dreams come true.

If you are really concerned that mom and dad will be (yawn) boring, here are a couple of thoughts:
    • Consider asking a close friend or cousin to join you on the trip, of course if this would not work financially be sure to speak to the child's parent to see if they could help pay for the trip before telling the kids.
    • There are a number of resorts that offer on-site kids clubs or babysitting services. You did not mention your daughter's age so I am not sure if this would be appropriate for her, but these locations often offer a chance for mom and dad to have a night out and the kids a chance to meet new friends, play games, watch movies and more
    • Spend some time at your resort's pool, especially in the afternoons. Most Disney resorts offer fun pool activiites in the afternoons like water volleyball, dance and trivia contests and more. My kids always walk away with a number of new friends that they love to meet back up with every afternoon for some pool fun.
    • Lastly, let your daughter help plan your trip. If she is involved in deciding your daily plans, she will enjoy the activities that much more. Depending on her age, maybe do an afternoon spa appointment with mom or how about a bike ride with dad. A day at a waterpark or an evening at Disney Quest are all activities that I am sure she will love even if it is just the three of you, and they are memories you will have together.

Have fun and enjoy your time together, she will!
