We had a chalk drawing made of our son at DW 30 years ago. We are taking HIS son to DW in July and wonder if there are still artists on the grounds to create a picture of our grandson?

There are a variety of artists that work at WDW. You can have silhouettes, caricatures, or real portraits made on premises. There are few areas where the artists congregate. In the Magic Kingdom. They are in two spots: on Main Street about half way down on the right as you face the castle and in Liberty Square. In Epcot, there are artists clustered outside the France pavilion, of course :-). There are also artists in Downtown Disney.

Some of the resorts also have resident artists. The most professional I've seen is at the Beach Club. These are pastel and chalk portraitists that charge real artist prices, but their work is magnificent. If you want a family heirloom, that's where I'd go. My observation is that the artists are generally there only during the evening hours, so you should call the resort before heading over there to check on the timing. Perhaps you could have a nice dinner at the Cape May Cafe and then have the portrait sitting. What a sophisticated evening!
