We will be celebrating my daughter's 5th birthday on our next visit to the Magic Kingdom. Are there any special things that we can do where her birthday will be recognized or acknowledged (e.g. a character experience)?

There is so much to do. I would suggest stopping at Guest Relations in any of the parks and pick up a It's my Birthday button.  Each of the parks have the same button, and there is a space to write your daughters name.  She will receive all sorts of Happy Birthday's all day in the park.  If you go out for a meal, ask if there is a birthday cake or cupcake, possibly a candle lit sundae?  Our daughter wanted a sundae, not a cake, so out came a hot fudge sundae, and where the cherry was to be was a candle, as the birthday song erupted in the restaurant.  You could also contact disneyflorist.com and order a princess basket to be delivered to your hotel room.  When you return to the room at the end of the day, she will be surprised, and the zeal and happiness, is incredible.  Have a fabulous trip!!!
