1st camp trip in RV to CFW. Advice of any kind is appreciated! Also, how do we meet the characters or roast marshmallows sing along, etc with characters there? Trip is for Apr 26 - May 1, 2010

    Hazel:

The Character Meet you're describing is Chip 'n' Dale's Campfire Singalong held nightly behind the Meadows Trading Post and large pool. It will more than likely start at 8 p.m. because of daylight savings time, but verify that when you receive your Welcome Packet at check-in. The fire kettles are lit about 30 minutes before the singalong.  Bring your own s'more fixings or you can buy kits for around $9.  You can remain comfortably seated to wait on Chip 'n' Dale. They make the rounds of the entire amphitheatre, and do a good job to include everyone.

As for advice, pack your usual camping gear but keep in mind that Disney puts safety first. Open fire pits are not allowed nor are gas-powered utility vehicles. Some campers decorate their sites even if there is no holiday, so don't be shy to bring some outdoor lights.  Some sights on the back loops are dim, so we bring our own Mickey lamp post light. (For directions, visit the camping thread at www.disboards.com.) I recommend utilizing the comfort stations. They feature slate floors that naturally repel mold, double doors for privacy in the shower and security of your goods, and incredible cleanliness. Premium sites sport full concrete pads allowing you to leave your outdoor rug at home. A full hook-up, however, has gravel, so if you have one, pack it. We like to bring a 10' x 10' canopy tent to put over our picnic table to create an outdoor dining room at the back of our RV.

Lastly, make sure you read your gazette upon check-in. There are so many activities that go unnoticed like Bingo, Dodgeball, archery lessons, pony rides and the nightly water pageant near the pier (arrive about 20 minutes early for a seat at one of the tables). I think you'll find it'll become a home away from home!  If you have any more questions about Fort Wilderness, feel free to visit my bio page!

Wishing y'all a magical camping vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
