My brother and I will be sailing on the Panama Canal cruise in October, 2015. Where is the best place for viewing while cruising through the canal?

    Ahoy, Lori!

I'm excited to hear you'll be enjoying one of Disney Cruise Line's amazing Panama Canal cruises very soon! While I've not yet had the opportunity to sail this itinerary, I've done some research by reading trip reports and asking friends where the best viewing spots are when you sail through the locks.

Each day, you'll receive a Personal Navigator - a detailed daily schedule of everything happening around the ship. Your Navigator should contain information about what time your ship will be entering the canal, and you'll probably also hear this information in shipboard announcements the evening before. On a recent sailing, the ship was scheduled to enter the first locks around 8am, but that is always subject to change.

You'll find that many guests choose to gather on Deck 10, Forward, where you can get a "bird's eye" view of everything happening as you cross the canal. If you want a prime spot in this location, you'll need to get out there early! There are great views from the large windows in Parrot Cay, where you can enjoy a yummy breakfast while you watch all the action outside. Other spots you might enjoy are the public areas on Deck 3 or the Promenade on Deck 4.

Once you're onboard, I suggest asking Cast Members about any other favorite vantage spots when cruising the canal. Fun Fact: at this time, Disney's Magic Class ships (Disney Wonder and Disney Magic) are the maximum size ships that can fit through the canal. Currently there is a major expansion project happening that will allow larger ships like the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy to be able to pass through in the near future!

I hope this helps, and I hope you find a practically perfect spot for viewing the canal crossing! Some guests choose to move to several spots to get multiple views of this super cool process.

Have a magical day, and Bon Voyage! - Diane W.
