My brother is marching in DisneyWorld's Fantasyland this upcoming April. My mom and I are trying to save money so that we can have a final vacation with him before he's done with high school. Any advice on how to save the money?

Bonjour, Katherine! That's awesome that your brother's high school band is marching at Magic Kingdom. My high school show choir performed a couple days in Fantasyland my senior year. I was there, beaming from ear to ear, jazz hands and all. Uh huh. C'est moi.

My parents came down for it, and I bet it would mean the world to your brother if you and your mom were there too.

There are some hard costs to initially factor in, such as park tickets and airfare, though there's sometimes a small margin of savings to realize through individual airlines and park tickets from places like UndercoverTourist.com.

Here are some other ways you can control costs:
    • Pack breakfast in your suitcase rather than pay out of pocket. This will save the both of you $5-$8 a day.
    • Drink water. It's free. If you have need of coffee, bring instant packets with you.
    • Eat a late brunch or late lunch - a late brunch will keep you full to dinner (and cost less than lunch.) A late lunch will keep you full through dinner (and costs less than dinner.) You could then have an evening snack to hold you over until the next day.
    • Look for room only reservation discounts (check out MouseSavers.com.)
    • Based on the above recommendations, pay out of pocket for food rather than get the dining plan.
