    Marianne from ON Asked

I am bringing my 10 year old daughter and 6 year old boy with Down Syndrome to Disney next April! I am wondering what you think is the best moderate resort? And can I request a room close to everything?

I, too, have a daughter with Down syndrome, Marianne.  She's twelve and has been visiting Walt Disney World since she was just a year old!  You want to know her number one criteria for declaring a resort fun?  Whether or not there is a pool.  If so, she's in.  If your children are anything like her, they will love any of Disney's moderate resorts because they all have pools!  Still, I have to admit that I do have a personal favorite.  Disney's Port Orleans Riverside is amazing.  The grounds are gorgeous, for starters.  I also appreciate the extensive opportunities for recreation (think fishing, biking and even boating!).  My daughter also gets a kick out of attending the River Roost Lounge on nights when Yeeha Bob is on hand playing the piano; he has a great, family-friendly show!

You can certainly request a room close to the resort's lobby, gift shop and food court.  I would recommend Lodge 18 in the Alligator Bayou section.

Have a great time, Marianne.  And don't hesitate to ask me further questions with regard to traveling with loved ones who have Down syndrome.  Enjoy!
