I am bringing my 77 y/o mother to WDW in DEC. She is hearing impaired and also uses ASL (American sign language) Do you have any suggestions for show or attractions she may enjoy? I was thinking maybe the hoop dee review.

Hi, Sheila!  Having a visually impaired husband, I have always found that Walt Disney World really excels at helping guests with special needs make magical memories.

For guests who are hearing impaired, there is a rotating schedule at the theme parks when some of the shows and attractions will be presented with the assistance of a sign language interpreter.  The Magic Kingdom has an ASL interpreter on Mondays and Thurdays; Tuesdays and Saturdays feature ASL interpretation at Disney's Animal Kingdom; Disney's Hollywood Studios has the service on Wednesdays and Sundays; and you'll find the interpreter at EPCOT on Fridays.

In addition to ASL interpreters, other assistive devices are available.  You will find video and reflective captioning devices as well as Assistive Listening and Handheld Captioning systems available at the theme parks.

The Hoop Dee Doo is such a fun show!  You can actually request sign language interpreters for the dinner shows, including the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue and the Spirit of Aloha.  You do have to request this service 14 days in advance.  The service can also be requested for the Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage - another fun thing to do.

For everything you'll need to know to make your Mom's vacation a more enjoyable experience, just visit Walt Disney World Hearing Impaired Services.  You'll find the phone numbers to request the sign language interpreters and the information regarding the assistive listening devices.

Have an absolutely wonderful vacation, and thank you so much for your question!
