I am bringing my family of 5 to Disney for the kids' first trip. I'm having a hard time with making plans because I have a 9 yo son and twin 3.5 yo daughters. Obviously their interests are a bit different. Any suggestions?

    Hi, Lura!

    Not to worry!

We always have a diverse group of travelers with us when we visit Walt Disney World. As such, I've found that it's very helpful to have favorites for everyone mixed in throughout each day. This makes it so much easier to help each child get through one event that was chosen for a sibling, because they know that their own favorite is coming up next. I might, for example, plan for the family to hop onto Star Tours at Disney's Hollywood Studios (which is fun for everyone, even those who aren't Star Wars fans) followed by a visit to Voyage of The Little Mermaid.

So much of WDW has been planned for the entire family that it's easy to keep everyone happy throughout the day. Consider getting all three kids involved in selecting your dining locations, too. A highlight of each day can be your Table Service reservation; making sure that everyone visits a favorite or two on this trip will also help you to keep the peace as you tour each day. (We've begun with a breakfast with the Princesses at Cinderella's Royal Table, followed by a morning at Pirates of the Caribbean and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. Just remind the child who is NOT at a favorite that what's up next is for him / her. Makes the experience bearable, no matter what.)

Just be sure to sprinkle in attractions, entertainment and even dining experiences for everyone throughout the day, and all will be well, Lura. With a girl and a boy here, too, I know that you can plan each day so that everyone is happy by each day's end. PLUS, WDW does everything so beautifully, the kids may surprise you with how open they are to each other's experiences.

Be sure to send more questions as you think of them, Lura. We love to help!
