Should we bring our Magic Bands on the Disney Cruise?

    Ahoy Glennyce –
Welcome to the Panel. It sounds like you are seasoned Walt Disney World veterans because you are Magic Band experts! I remember mentioning Magic Band to a friend and she said, “What is that?” Well, for those of us who have not been to the Walt Disney World Resort, a Magic Band is a wonderful bracelet with technology that is used for admission to the Parks, charging privileges to your Walt Disney Resort hotel, and is the key to your hotel room. Things are a little different with Disney Cruise Line because instead of Magic Bands, guests will get a magical Key to the World Card that functions the same way. The Key to the World is used for charging items to your stateroom, to open your stateroom door, to embark and disembark the ship, to operate your stateroom lighting and is necessary in order to pick up your children from the Nursery and Oceaneer Club. Magic Bands onboard Disney Cruise Line are instead used for the Youth Clubs. Pirate children aged 12 and under will get a Magic Band on embarkation day that is attached with a clip to keep them from being removed. These special bands are used for check-in and check-out. I really like the technology because when I go to pick up my tiger cubs, the Youth Counselors can tell me exactly where to find them (you will understand once you see how big the clubs are). Unlike Disney World, the Magic Bands are not included with the cruise fare. On my last sailing 2 weeks ago, I was not charged a fee for the Magic Bands that my children used; however, if they are not returned at the end of the cruise, families incur a $12.95 charge to keep them. Glennyce thanks for asking your question here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel!
