I was born, raised, and paid taxes in Florida (not income but plenty of sales taxes) for the first 30 years of life. Most of my family lives in Brooksville where I grew up. Planning late May visit with son. Can we get res tix? He will be 9 (birthday trip)

Hey there, Kevin! From one lifelong Floridian to another, welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

What an exciting trip you have planned for your little guy’s big day! Coming home to the Sunshine State and visiting the Walt Disney World Resort sounds like a practically perfect plan.

Kevin, here’s the scoop on the Florida Resident Ticket program. Any adult who plans to use a Florida Resident Ticket must provide current proof of Florida residency at Guest Relations before entering any of the Theme Parks, so you wouldn’t be eligible for the discount since you’ve moved out-of-state. However, Florida residents can buy tickets for children using their discount, so you’ll just need one of your Florida family members to show their proof of residency to purchase and activate your son’s ticket. That way, your birthday boy can have a blast in the Parks, and you can save a few bucks!

While you’re there, don’t forget to pick up a “Happy Birthday” button! You'll find them at Guest Relations or at most retail shops in the Parks. Your son will love all the warm wishes he gets while wearing it. If you have a special birthday meal planned, you can call Disney Dining and have your celebration noted on your reservation for a little extra pixie dust for the birthday boy. And if you need a cake, Disney has you covered there, too! You can special order a cake and have it delivered right to your table. It will make your son feel like a Disney superhero.

And of course, there’s a whole world of things to do at Walt Disney World for kids of all ages! If you need some ideas, there’s a planning guide for parents of teens and tweens you may find helpful. My nine-year-old’s favorites are Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Avatar Flight of Passage, and Test Track. I'm sure your son will find some new favorites as well!

I hope this helps you plan a magical birthday for your little guy at Walt Disney World, Kevin. Please come see us again if you have any more questions!

    Keep Disney Dreaming,

    Kathy K.

Meet the Panelist: Kathy, Florida

I've lived my whole life just an hour's drive from Walt Disney World, so I've been a regular visitor for as long as I can remember. Even after all these years and so many visits, I love that there's still so much to discover! Now that I'm a mom myself, seeing my favorite place through my son's eyes has given me a whole new perspective that I enjoy sharing with other parents of young children. Learn More About Kathy
