    Kelly from TN Asked

I am booking a vacation in May 2011. I have been researching different resorts. I am wondering about the wait time and travel time for bus transportation from Port Orleans Riverside to the parks. Also, what would be the best option for a moderate resort?

Hey, Kelly! May crowds are not quite as busy as March/April or June/July. Yet, there are still a lot of events going on in and around the parks that draw many guests...especially convention attendees and sports teams.

My suggestion is to consider either of the 2 Port Orleans resorts (Riverside/French Quarter). Or, depending on your traveling party, I also recommend the Cabins of Fort Wilderness.  Although Coronado Springs is a great resort, it caters more to the business traveler with a convention center on property, and Caribbean Beach Resort has direct bus transportation to the ESPN Wide World of Sports.

The advantages of staying at one of the Port Orleans resorts is the convenience of being near Downtown Disney...it's only a boat ride away. Plus, there are great pools, casual dining and entertainment/recreation such as boat rentals and carriage rides. From Port Orleans, the wait for transportation usually can vary from just a few to 20+ minutes, and the commutes to the parks range from Epcot/Hollywood Studios being about 20 minutes to Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom being 30+ minutes.

At Fort Wilderness, there is so much to see and do just at the resort! There's the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue, Mickey's Backyard BBQ and Chip n' Dale's Campfire Sing-a-longs nightly. Plus, there's horseback riding, carriage rides, a petting zoo and watercraft rental.  The Cabins can sleep up to six and come equipped with full kitchens, dining and living area as well as an outdoor deck and grill. We like to rent a golf cart to get around easily and independently of the internal bus system, and the Magic Kingdom is only a boat ride away. There's also a convenient water taxi that makes getting to Wilderness Lodge and The Contemporary a breeze -- which opens up a whole new world of dining and entertainment options.

I hope this helps you narrow down your choices. Come back if you have more questions. Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation!
