Hi...i have just booked a week in October at the AOA cars suite. My biggest concern is probably the transportation. Do I really need to allow for a 45-60 minute wait/travel time every time we want to go somewhere using WDW buses? What about monorail?

    Hi Claire!
Most of the time when you see advice books or blogs or travel sites recommend those waiting times, they are usually on the long end and from points far apart. Keep in mind that the Walt Disney World Resort property is HUGE. Magic Kingdom, for example, is at the northern most point on property and Animal Kingdom is at the far southwest corner, and they are probably 5 or more miles apart. Also, some wait estimates include 20 minutes or so of wait time, while others give the time from once you are onboard the buses and on your way. So, the estimates vary greatly.
Also, crowd levels, number of buses running, park hours, etc. all contribute to how long of a wait may be experienced. For planning purposes, from your resort, once you are ONBOARD, the "travel" times are approximately 5 minutes to Disney's Hollywood Studios, 10 minutes to EPCOT, 15 minutes to Animal Kingdom, and roughly 20 minutes to the Magic Kingdom. The monorail only goes to Magic Kingdom and EPCOT with a connection at the Transportation and Ticket Center.
So, the answer to your question is...it depends. Depends where you're going, when you leave, what time of day it is, how many buses are running, did you catch a bus or have to wait for one...so many variables. The 45-60 minute rule is approximate, but when you factor in exiting a park (and from where in the park), to walking to the bus stop, to waiting for the bus, to travel time, to walking to the next park entrance, the time adds up.
I hope this helps a bit and I wish you a Magical trip this fall!! :)
