I just booked the transatlantic eastbound cruise for our family on the Magic! Hurray! We've never cruised before and wondered how to tell which on board activities are free and which have additional costs that we should budget for...help?

    Hi Nicole,

I am green with envy - it sounds like you have booked one of the most amazing voyages!  You'll find that just about everything is included with your cruise fare.  There are a few activities such as bingo and the wine/beer/martini/cognac tastings that require an additional fee.  The tastings range from $12-15 per person and the bingo varies depending on the game and equipment package you purchase between $30-90.

Things I would consider budgeting for would be:

Room Service - The food is included, but it's customary to give a gratuity to the person that delivers it to your stateroom. I like to tip based on how much they bring, typically $1/item with a minimum tip of $3

Spa Services - I spent a significant amount of time in the Spa on my last cruise, and this is something well worth budgeting for!  You can find pricing HERE.

Movie/Show Snacks - The theaters sell a wide variety of snacks and beverages.  They are pre-packaged like you would buy at a movie theater and priced about like you would expect at a movie theater.

Alcoholic Beverages - These are not included in your cruise fare, along with any drinks purchased at a bar or from a server on deck (such as bottled water, or soda).  There is a self-service drink station on Deck 9 aft that has a selection of complimentary fountain drinks, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.

Gourmet Coffees - Also not included, but worth every penny!  There is a coffee-house style establishment on board called Cove Cafe where you can purchase lattes, cappuccinos, espressos etc.

If it were me, I would probably set a budget of about $30/day per person for incidentals....but I like to buy a lot of coffee & bottled water!
