Hi Moms! We have booked our second trip Dec 11-18 and are planning on staying at POFQ again. I wonder if we did the right thing? Our kids loved the pool and I did enjoy the size of the resort. Should we go deluxe or explore a new resort this time?

    Vicky:

I'm tempted to recommend that you try another resort.

Our family typically takes our RV to Fort Wilderness and have been at least 7 times that I can count quickly.  We do run into the problem of comparing our latest campsite to past ones.  When we stay at the resorts, however, they generally provide such a different experience that we don't run the risk of playing the comparison game.

I love Port Orleans: French Quarter for the reason you mentioned: its smaller size.  If your children loved its pool, then they'll be bowled over at Caribbean Beach Resort with its Spanish-fort-themed pool and water play station. It's much larger than POFQ but you can request a preferred room that's pirate-themed and near the pool and main building.

If you're willing to spend a little more, consider one of the semi-deluxe resorts: Wilderness Lodge or Animal Kingdom lodge. Both have pools that are heads above a moderate's, and you'll forget all about POFQ. Both offer superior restaurants and scenery that is breath-taking. In this semi-deluxe budget, you can also consider a garden view room at the Contemporary hotel and be on the monorail.  Another less expensive option is a room at the Swan or Dolphin hotel. The swan is the smaller of the two and its proximity to the Boardwalk along with Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios makes it an excellent value if you don't want the Disney dining plan or need Magical Express from the airport.

Your budget will stay relatively the same with a choice of Caribbean Beach Resort or the Swan but the experience will be totally different.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
