Hi - I have booked our family on the Disney Dream for April 2012. I have two sons who will be 10 and 12 when we sail. Will my younger son be able to go to the Edge teen area with his brother? They like to do everything together. Thanks!!

    Hi, Charlene!

Congratulations on your cruise next year aboard the beautiful Disney Dream! My family and I were on the ship a few weeks ago, and I pointedly asked Carole, the Director of Youth Clubs, about the age issue. (I get a lot of guests' questions about this as well as I have a wide-range of ages in my own family!)

She told me that if a child is within a couple of months of turning the minimum age for a youth club, the child is welcome to join the activities in the older youth club.  Of course, you may have a problem registering the child online since the system only recognizes exact birthdates. However, you can visit the clubs and register the child once you arrive on board on Embarkation Day.

If your younger child is not within a few months of turning 11 (the minimum age for Edge), consider registering both of your boys for where they belong agewise. Then, once you're on the ship, let them visit both spaces at Open House on Embarkation Day. I think you might be surprised that your older son may be a tad jealous that he's not a few years younger.

Disney's Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab are amazing spaces full of state-of-the-art technology, and while your younger one is just on the cusp of being able to enjoy it, I would most definitely encourage him to take advantage of his youth in this respect! Besides he'll make great friends apart from his older brother, and you all can enjoy other activities together as a family. (Hint: Virtually visit the two spaces on line and ask your older son to help encourage his younger brother. Then, go to Edge first and then visit Oceaneer Club and Lab. They are both incredible...but Club/Lab make me want to be a kid again!)

I hope this helps -- we have a similar issue in our family, and it worked out beautifully when we sailed the Disney Dream earlier this month. Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
