Three Generations Aboard Ship

Would like to book my first ever Disney cruise for my family, including my 7 year old granddaughter. If this was your first and probably only cruise ever, which ship and destination would you take? Please include excursions, etc. you recommend.

    Welcome aboard, Meldre!

My daughter is eight years old and has been sailing since she was five, so I certainly know what are the favorites for little girls onboard Disney's ships! If the price is right for your family, I'd recommend a seven-night sailing, as it will give your family more time to really enjoy and explore the ship. Of course, the shorter sailings are amazing too, but we really prefer the longer ones. I'd suggest you start by playing around on the Find A Cruise page of Disney Cruise Line's website where you can choose length of sailing, itinerary, and month, then view the costs and see which one looks best for your budget.

Be sure this first sailing includes a stop at Disney's Castaway Cay, the private Bahamian island reserved exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests. It is one of my family's favorite beaches in the entire world! In fact, we just enjoyed a visit there last week when we sailed on the Disney Dream! We love that the food and many of the activities are included on Castaway Cay, so we can really enjoy our day without spending any additional money! What a bonus! But, some great optional adventures are available there too!

If your sailing takes you to Nassau, I recommend swimming with the dolphins at Blue Lagoon. This is my daughter's all time favorite port adventure. She still talks about Laguna and Gussie Mae, the two dolphins that we swam with. Our adventure group was small, only four of us total on the adventure, so we got lots of time and interaction with these beautiful creatures, then enjoyed relaxing on the island the rest of the day before heading back to the ship.

In Grand Cayman, we loved swimming with stingrays and visiting the Turtle Farm, which are included on a few different adventures there. In Cozumel, a visit to the ruins was amazing as well. I'm about out of room, Meldre, so please stop back with any other questions you have!
