I got the 07 Birnbaum's book handed down to me for my Aug.08 vacation. Will it still be valid? It still refers to Hollywood Studios as MGM! Traveling with my family (DD6 and DS3), my sister's family (DS6, DD4, DD2), our mom and our bro. Aug19-25.

The rule of thumb that I've heard for most travel guidebooks is that in any given year, somewhere between 10-20% of the information changes. Much of that information is things like pricing. For example, almost none of the pricing information in the 2007 Birnbaum guide will be correct.

Other areas of change are the addition of new attractions (Toy Story Mania is not in the 2007 guide), new restaurants (the Yak and Yeti at the Animal Kingdom is not in the 2007 guide), renamings (the restaurant in the Japan pavilion at Epcot was called Tepanyaki Dining and now is called Teppan Edo), rethemeings (Tusker House in the Animal Kingdom used to be a counter service venue, now it is a character dining location), or closures (the Concourse Steakhouse at the Contemporary is gone). These are just a few examples of outdated or misinformation that you'll get by using an old guidebook.

On the other hand 80-90% of the information will be correct. Most of the rides, restaurants, and resorts are the same. So, yes, you probably could get away with using a one year old guide if you were not using the book as a source of pricing information. But once a travel book is two years old, then so much is inaccurate that I'd feel uncomfortable having you use it. I personally buy new copies of the Birnbaum guide, the Unofficial Guide, and the Passporter guide every year.
