Which is a better long weekend for a trip ( in terms of crowds, weather, etc.) - Columbus Day or Veteran's Day? Would you pick either of these dates over a longer trip (2 more days) in the end of July, which is hot and crowded? Thanks!

    Hi John,

In terms of crowds and weather, I would visit in early November over the Veteran's holiday weekend. Crowds are a bit lower than over Columbus Day weekend. Average highs in October are still around 85 while you'll enjoy more pleasant 80 degree days in November! And there's less rainfall in the month of November which is a big plus. Early November is one of our favorite times of the year to travel to WDW.

Now for your more difficult question as to whether a longer visit in July would be more beneficial than a shorter vacation in November. This is tricky because any day in Disney is better than a normal day at home!

My answer would depend on the members of your touring party. If you have young kids or elderly parents touring with you, I would definitely choose the cooler months. While you won't have time to see and do everything during a long weekend trip in November, you can choose your Must See attractions and return home with wonderful memories without having to endure the heat and humidity.

If you have older kids, touring in July might be feasible. I would recommend going to a park early in the morning, then returning to the hotel during the hottest part of the day. Return to a park in the evening and tour until park closing. This plan is best suited to parties that are willing to get up early, take advantage of afternoon rest (or naps!) and can definitely stay in a WDW park until late at night. You'll want a touring plan that includes breaks inside air-conditioned restaurants, attractions and/or shops.

    Happy WDW planning!
