    Susan from NL Asked

What is the best time of the year to take a 6 year old for the first time to Walt Disney World? (Lower ride wait times, lower temperatures, etc.)

    Hi Susan,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel and thank you for asking us a question, my fellow Canadian!

I have a 6 year old boy and, if you asked him, he’d say that any time of year is the perfect time to visit Walt Disney World Resort! We’ve visited during several different seasons and we’ve had wonderful vacations every time… even in the heat of the summer. In fact, I just asked my little guy what his favourite time of year was for a Disney Parks vacation, and he just told me that he loves the summer because it means we visit the Walt Disney World Water Parks more frequently. Go figure!

If I had to give you a “Mama” answer, however, I find that the best time of year for a visit to Walt Disney World Resort, both in terms of crowd levels and temperatures, is in early May. Although, based on my experience, September felt like a month that had lower attendance than any other time of year, it can still be very hot and humid that month. I find the weather in May to typically be the perfect combination of heat, without the humidity that is around in the summer and early Fall. It’s a great way to thaw out after a long Canadian winter, that’s for sure!

Second, unlike visits in, say, January (which has coolest weather, and lower attendance, too), I find that in May, the Theme Parks and other attractions have more entertainment offerings and lengthier operating hours. This will give you more options for your Disney Day. Based on my experience, Magic Kingdom Park can often close as early as 8:00 pm in January, which I find early… even for little ones.

Finally, May is usually when one of my favourite Epcot events, the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival is in full bloom. It’s really a treat and tons of fun for the little ones too, with special playgrounds, tasty treats and even a butterfly garden!

I hope my answer helps you plan the perfect vacation for you and your family. Please don’t hesitate to come back and see us if you have any other questions about planning your son’s First Visit to Walt Disney World Resort.

    Have a Magical Day,

    Lynne
