When is the best time of year to plan a week at DisneyWorld to avoid major crowds and have good weather? We have two kids in school on a balanced calendar.

    Hi Michael,

Greetings from a fellow Hoosier! I'm so excited to hear that you're thinking about taking your kids to the most magical place on earth!

While there are many great times of the year to visit, I'd suggest sometime during fall break if you're wanting to visit during a school break. Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival are a blast, the weather is generally nice, and the crowds are manageable. I do love visiting during the Christmas season due to the festive atmosphere and incredible special events going on (Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is my FAVORITE special event of the entire year), but the time frame between Christmas and New Year's Day is the most popular time of the entire year to visit. Spring break and summertime are other really popular times to visit, simply because school is out. If you have the flexibility to go during during May, September, early December, or February, you'll generally find those times to be less crowded. As for the weather, I've visited during winter when the weather was lovely and mild, but also when I was grateful to have my winter coat and hat with me. May is generally nice and September can be warm, but also rainy. It truly just depends on the year, though.

To me, more important than visiting during slower seasons is having a great plan in place. If you arrive early to the theme parks, maximize the FastPass+ service, and look for magic in unexpected places, you'll have a great time no matter what the crowds are like.

Thanks so much for bringing me your great question, Michael, and please let me know if I can help with anything else as you're planning your trip. Whenever you decide to visit, I hope that you and your family have a truly magical vacation!
