Where and when is the best place to meet characters?

This depends a bit on which characters you're interested in meeting. There are Disney characters available to meet all over Walt Disney World. Some characters have specific published greeting times and places, while others appear as a surprise.

As a good first step in learning about the character greeting situation at WDW, you might want to listen to episode #631 of the WDW Today podcast. You can download this for free from iTunes to listen to on your computer or portable listening device. I had the great privilege of being a guest on this episode - which focuses on tips for meeting characters.

    Here are some highlights:

    - Grab a copy of the free Times Guide available at the entrance to each of the theme parks. This will give the times and locations of scheduled character greetings. For example, the Magic Kingdom Times Guide may tell you that Tinker Bell is in Pixie Hollow from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. If Tink is on your to-do list, then that is obviously the place to find her.

    - My favorite place to meet many characters at once is at Camp Mickey Minnie in the Animal Kingdom. There are several greeting lines here where you can usually meet more than one character at a time. Very efficient.

    - A good place to meet characters in a relaxed way is at a character meal. Disney offers many places to dine with characters. For example at Chef Mickey's in the Magic Kingdom, you can have a meal with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Pluto. They will all come to your table and stop for a hug and photos. You can get more information about character dining or make reservations (strongly encouraged) by calling 407-WDW-DINE.

    - If there is a specific character you're looking for that is not listed on a Times Guide, stop by the Guest Relations office at one of the parks. They can call the "character hotline" for you to determine if, when, and where your favorite character will be appearing.

Have a great time in the parks!
