    Fred from MD Asked

Just beginning plan a for a Family Vacation in 2017. The last Family Vacation was 2011. I'm a stroke survivor. My question is: Can an ECV be used in the restaurants?

    Hello, Fred!

Walt Disney World Resort is a magical place to celebrate being a survivor! My young Mousketeer is also a stroke survivor, and I clearly remember our first visit after his strokes. My husband and I were nervous as we were not sure what to expect in our new normal, but one look at our son's smile as we strolled down Main Street, U.S.A. made all the worry go away. We were home! I am sure that your next visit will be just as magical.

In our experience, most table-restaurants request that you park your unit outside as the tables are usually close together and can be difficult to navigate with an ECV. Be sure to note on your advanced dining reservations that you need wheelchair access, and follow-up with this request upon check-in at the restaurant. Cast Members make every effort to get you a table that is close or one that allows you to use the unit to the table and then transfer to a seat.

You may want to take a look Attractions Access Categories to help you plan your theme park days. I find it very helpful to know which attractions allow my son to remain in his wheelchair/push stroller and which attraction vehicles he can access with my help. Before you know it you'll be zooming along the road at Test Track or Soarin' the world!

I hope this helps, Fred. Please let me know if you have additional questions as you plan your 2017 visit! I'm thrilled to help another stroke survivor!

    Keep moving forward, my friend!
