If we take the Bahama 3 day cruise and have 5 adults and 2 children ages 9 n 12 do we need passports? What kind of id do we need?

    Welcome Aboard, Irene!

Thanks for visiting us here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

At this time, U.S. Citizens sailing with a "closed loop itinerary" (departing from and returning to the same U.S. port) are able to use a valid Photo I.D. and certified birth certificate to board the ship and re-enter the country. That being said, passport regulations are always changing, and Disney Cruise Line "strongly recommends" that all Guests have a valid U.S. Passport. If you were to encounter an emergency (medical emergency, emergency stop in a foreign country, late return from a non-Disney excursion causing you to miss the ship, etc.) that required air travel, passports would be needed.

You can keep up-to-date on current passport regulations at www. travel.state.gov . It normally takes 6-8 weeks to get a passport, so if it's something you're considering, make sure you allow enough time to receive them prior to your sailing.

My husband and I got our first passports a few years ago, and aside from the tragic passport photo I have to live with for ten years, I'm happy we made the investment. When we cruise with our children, all we've needed to bring was their birth certificates. Someday soon we will probably get them passports as well!

I hope this helps with your planning! Please let us know if you have additional questions as you plan your Disney Cruise Line vacation.

    Have a magical day! - Diane W.
