Back for more advise! Planning my next trip with DH, Twin DD 6, DS 2. Deciding bet Ft Wilderness or WL? Interested in Backyard BBQ & Whispering Canyon for meals and activities at resort for kids on non park days. I always value your opinions!!

    Nancy:

As the panel's biggest fan of the fort, you'd think I'd recommend it without blinking an eye, but each offer different amenities, so let's explore them:

Price: Wilderness Lodge on face value. However, the cabins at the fort provide a full-size kitchen. Breakfast and a few other meals in the cabin could bring your total costs much closer in comparison.

Pool: Wilderness Lodge, for your 6-year-olds, with its geyser, slide, and waterfall. On the other hand, the fort's splash station would be better suited for your son with its hoses, sprinklers and small slide. But two over-rule one.

Activities: Fort Wilderness. Chip 'n' Dale's campfire singalong, Mickey's Backyard BBQ, and pony rides  make for a fun time out of the parks. However, with the proximity of a 10-minute ferry ride from the lodge, you can access all of its activities without staying on property.

So far, it's pretty even, so it may come down to a few questions:

    1. Would you like the extra space a cabin affords?

    2. Do the children need to take naps and would the privacy of the cabin's bedroom help you accomplish that?

    3. Do you have active children who enjoy playing outside?

    4. Will you be bringing a car? Transportation at the fort is a little more convoluted than the lodge.

    5. How picky are you for your own bedding? The lodge offers queen beds but the fort has a double and a Murphy bed plus bunks.

    6. Do you see yourself visiting Disney down the road? If so, your family of 5 won't qualify for a standard room at the lodge. If you'd like to experience that resort, now's the time.

Hopefully I haven't muddied the waters. If you have any more questions about Fort Wilderness, just visit me via my bio page!

Meet the Panelist: Whitney, Mississippi

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
