Attending a family reunion during Mardi Gras 2011. Nervous about bringing my tempermental 2 year old. Any tips on bringing toddlers who I feel is really too young to enjoy? We are camping in our RV at Fort Wilderness Campground!!

    Hi Pamela!

Sounds like you guys are going to have a blast!  We've had wonderful experiences bringing two year olds to Walt Disney World. Your concern is a common one. In fact, I've just recently answered a similar question.

    Tips:

    1. Prepare them: show them where you'll be staying (your RV is a familiar place). Show them what you'll be doing--we watch the vacation planning DVD.  When packing make sure to take any lovies or comfort items--we also bring our own stroller from home.
    2. Keep discipline consistent:  for me that is the key to this age.  Maintain the same expectations that you have at home, and use the same consequences.
    3. Make sure you have snacks on hand at all times: a hungry child is a cranky child!  We always have healthy, protein-packed snacks on hand for the kids at all times. We also allow the special Disney treats, but we try to do those right after a meal, or with a good snack.
    4. Keep nap time consistent: Make sure you schedule time every day to head back to the RV to nap.   Then, wake up refreshed ready to take on the evening!
    5. Try to keep meal times consistent with home:  typically if you try to push them past their norm (whether it be meat time or nap), a meltdown will likely occur.
    6.  Allow them free time to run around and play: This is important because much of the rest of their day is structured around attractions/show times, rushing here and there.  It's important to let them 'run wild' for a while each day.
    7.  DON'T stress!  Enjoy your time with your child and your family.
    Have a magical vacation,
