Arriving in WDW 2/26/12(day of Princess Half Marathon) via Auto Train & our van. Will World traffic/driving routes be affected? Does race route go through Parks and, if so, when does it normally clear out? Doing MK first day. Thanks!!

    Hi, Rachel!

Glad to see that you are making arrangements already; you definitely do not want to be caught up in the traffic around the Parks on Race Day.

Right now, the Princess Half Marathon is scheduled to begin at 5:45 AM on Sunday. Runners tackle a 13.1 course through Epcot, Magic Kingdom, and the surrounding roadways.

You can definitely expect some congestion in the morning, particularly  in the parking lots of Epcot, where the race begins and ends.

Several travel roads around the Walt Disney World Resort will be closed as well; road closures can begin the night prior to the race at around 11:00 PM.

Roads used for the course will remain closed until the race is completed on Sunday morning. Because the mandatory race pace is capped at 16 minutes per mile, you can expect the racers to be off the roads by 10 AM.

Disney is masterful at routing traffic to minimize gridlock and stoppages, but you will likely experience some slow speeds and delays until such time as the roads are completely free of racers and spectators. On the upside, the event does end by midmorning, and traffic flow quickly resumes its usual patterns.

    Have a wonderful trip!

    See you later, celebrator!
