We will be arriving very early to WDW on 11/29, the Sunday after Thanksgiving. We were planning to do an early check in, but would this be unrealistic due to the number of people checking out? What can we do in the meantime with 2 year old twins?

Hi Melissa!  The Sunday after Thanksgiving is notably quite a busy day for check-outs so the chance of you getting in early can be slim.  When you arrive check in and if your room is not ready you will receive a text message on your cell phone when it is.  This allows you to head out to other areas to enjoy your time and yet you will know immediately once your room has been released to check-in.

I suggest you store your luggage at the resort and walk around the resort to become more familiar with all the amenities it has to offer.  If you still have time then catch the bus and head to Downtown Disney where you will find the holiday spirit in full force. I don't recommend driving as this is a busy shopping day there and parking spots will be at a premium.  You can stroll through the shops, enjoy a bite to eat at many of the great restaurants, take a balloon ride that offers a spectacular view of the property, and enjoy the entertainment that is often on the stage.  The twins will enjoy the carrousel and train and perhaps Santa will be there for a visit!  If you have time head to Hanes to make the family all t-shirts for your vacation.  Downtown Disney has so much to offer that it makes it a great spot to go while you wait!
