I have an AP and would like my mother to join me for a day, but she had foot surgery recently. She can walk for 2-3 hours fine, just not all day, so I'm not sure if it's ethical to request a wheelchair or if we should just take long breaks?

Greetings, Iris, and thanks for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

First off, thank you for being a member of the Annual Passholder family! I hope you’ve been enjoying your magical year! I’m glad to hEAR that your mother is feeling better, and is ready to join you for some Disney fun! If you’re planning on staying for more than a few hours, I think a wheelchair or electronic convenience vehicle (ECV) could be a great idea for her. Anyone is welcome to rent a wheelchair or ECV from Disneyland Resort, so if you feel that a wheelchair could help your mother enjoy the day more, I say go for it!

If your mom doesn’t feel like renting a wheelchair, I recommend stopping by Guest Relations in either park upon arrival. There’s a location at City Hall in Disneyland Park, and at Chamber of Commerce in Disney California Adventure Park. You can speak with a Cast Member about your mom’s situation, and see what they recommend. There’s a chance she may qualify for Disability Access Service (DAS), which would allow her to get return times for attractions so she can avoid standing in lines.

Some of my favorite ways to take breaks at the Disneyland Resort include utilizing transportation, whether it’s one of the turn-of-the-century vehicles heading down Main Street, U.S.A., the Disneyland Monorail, or even the Disneyland Railroad! These are all great ways to experience the sights and sounds of the Disneyland Resort while resting weary feet. Attractions like “it’s a small world” and Pirates of the Caribbean are also great options for longer, air-conditioned rides that will entertain you while resting.

One of my favorite spots to enjoy a treat while resting is The Tropical Hideaway… I love sitting by Rosita while indulging in a Pineapple and Raspberry Swirl… yum!

I hope you and your mother have a memorable and comfortable day at the Happiest Place on Earth! Wishing you pixie-dusted adventures!
