Hi Amanda I saw that you said you were a "chicken" when it comes to thrill rides & I am too! I am glad you said that Big Thunder RR was not too extreme..how do think Splash Mountain or Space Mountain would be?I am coming July 12-16 - myself

Hi Linda! Chickens unite! Glad to hear from someone else who is not a big fan of thrill rides!

I don't mind rides that spin or go fast, but I don't like drops. I love Test Track and Big Thunder Mountain because neither of them send me plunging down a steep hill. The same can't be said for Splash Mountain and Space Mountain. I've heard Splash Mountain is a nice little boat ride with wonderful theming on the inside, but I can't get past the outside where the boats plunge down a gigantic, steep drop. I'd rather be stung by 100 bees than go down that hill. My children love Splash Mountain and have ridden it since they were young, but it's not for me.

As for Space Mountain, I've ridden it many times, but not voluntarily. When I was growing up, my family visited Walt Disney World frequently. My dad was a big fan of roller coasters, and as the oldest child, I somehow became his designated riding partner. I think I'm still traumatized today by the many rides on Space Mountain, which I found terrifying because I couldn't anticipate the dreaded drops in the darkness. In my mind, those drops were huge. However, one day a few years ago, I was riding the Tomorrowland Transit Authority (a ride that's just my speed!), which winds through Space Mountain. It just so happened that when we passed through Space Mountain the lights were on, and I could see for the first time the roller coaster that I had so feared as a child. I was shocked to see that it really didn't look that scary with the lights on and the drops really weren't that big.  It's actually a fairly tame roller coaster, but it's scary because it's in the dark and you can't see what's going to happen next.

If you go to a website like YouTube.com and search for Splash and Space Mountain, you can watch videos of these rides, which I find helpful in determining whether I want to brave a particular ride.

Hope you have a fantastic time in July! Come visit me again at the Moms Panel if you have more questions!
