We have always driven and are about to fly. Should our trading pins be in our carry ons or must they be in checked baggage? Does anyone have experience with this?

I'm no TSA expert, Lois, but I can offer my personal experience with regard to flying with pins.  My two oldest daughters are avid pin traders and never go to Disney without their expansive collections.  Because we're coming all the way from Arizona, we do fly each time we go to Disney.  My girls have never had any trouble carrying their pin collections (stored in Disney pin trading bags) through the security checkpoint and right onto the plane.  They're afraid that if they check them, the bags might get lost in transit and, well, let's just say that would practically constitute an emergency!  You might want to just double check with the airport you'll be departing from, but at least in my experience, carrying the pins on the plane is not a security breach.
