I have always dreamed about coming during early Dec when crowds and prices are lower, but daughter will be in kindergarten. Any advice on this, and if we decide how to tell the school. Very torn on this decision!! Love the panel!

Hey, Victoria! If you promise not to tell my principal, we've always taken our kids out of school to enjoy a family trip together at WDW -- almost every year since the first one started school a decade ago. With four children ranging in age from high school down to kindergarten, I would dare say that the very best time to take a child out of school is when s/he is in kindergarten. They really don't miss much, and if they miss something like a party or a play, you can always compensate by saying, "Remember, we're going to WDW!"

As they get older, school gets more "serious," and in middle school and high school, you have to avoid times of the year such as try outs for sports teams and final exams. However, when you inform your school administrators, simply write them an email or note to tell them of your family's plans and forget about the guilt. Family time is such a precious commodity, and childhood certainly doesn't last forever.

On a practical note, the first of December really is the best of both worlds! The crowds and rates are relatively low, and the Christmas decorations and events are spectacular. You all will have the time of your lives! Let me know if I can answer more questions for you. Meanwhile, have a wonderful day and a magical vacation!
