Allison, Do you know if knee scooters are allowed on Disney transportation or in the parks? I'd sure love to save $$ by not having to rent an ECV for my net solo trip. I'll be 2 months post-surgery. Thanks!

    Hi Rochelle,

Solo trips to Disney World are always fun and do have their advantages. You get to do what you want, when you want to do it.

I have indeed seen Guests in the parks using knee walkers. I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV but I have heard that Guests get pretty tired using knee walkers all day at Disney so keep that in mind.  If you are not used to being on one for hours during the day, you may want to consider alternating a day using the knee walker with a day renting an ECV.  You also don't want to over compensate and end up injuring your "good leg".  Before your trip, make sure you practice maneuvering curves, tight corners and in crowds.  That way you'll feel more comfortable when you go to Disney.

Now that Disney has mainstreamed a lot of their queues, you will be able to use the knee walker in many of the queues. If not, a Cast Member will direct you to a Handicapped Accessible Entrance.  Once you board, a Cast Member will assist you by moving the knee walker where you'll exit the attraction vehicle.

The use of knee walkers on the different types of Disney transportation will vary just as wheelchairs and ECVs do. On smaller water craft, you'll have to fold the knee walker and be able to board independently.  They will be able to accommodate you with a ramp on the Monorails.  On the buses, you should be able to use a ramp if you need to use the knee walker to board but you should be prepared to fold the knee walker during the ride. Depending on how big it is, the driver may secure it in a fixed position so that it does not roll around during the ride.  You should also be able to board the Ferry to the Magic Kingdom without a problem.

Please feel free to visit us with any other questions. Its a pleasure to assist you!  Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison
