We will have 3 adults and 4 children ages 2-8 in May. We would like to use Rider Swap on the available rides. Does everyone in the party have to select a fast pass? One adult will wait with the 2yo while the others use their fast passes.

Hi, Megan!  Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

Walt Disney World's Rider Switch service is such a great tool to utilize when you're traveling with little Mouseketeers.  The Rider Switch service really comes in handy when your party does not have FastPass+ booked for an attraction.  In this situation, a Cast Member at the attraction entrance will issue you a Rider Switch entitlement.  While one adult waits with the nonrider(s), the other members of your party would, in this case, wait in the standby queue.  After they are done riding, the waiting adult can use the FastPass+ queue to board the ride, thus eliminating the need to wait in the standby queue a second time.

Often, parties prefer to book FastPass+ for popular attractions with longer wait times, even when they will need to utilize Rider Switch.  Recently, Walt Disney World updated their Rider Switch service, making it completely digital. When guests approach the Cast Member at the attraction entrance to inquire about Rider Switch, they now will have their Rider Switch return times digitally loaded onto their MagicBand or admission card instead of being issued a paper ticket.

As the new system has been explained to us, if the first Rider Switch guest uses FastPass+ to experience an attraction, then the second rider should also have a FastPass+ for that attraction.  Now that the Rider Switch system is digital, Cast Members do have the ability to double check that all guests in the party have a FastPass+ selection for that attraction when they scan for a Rider Switch entitlement.

Wishing you a magical Walt Disney World vacation!
