Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel
- Hello Moms,
My family and I are due to arrive in WDW on Sept. 29th 2013. I've heard about the Love Bugs in Florida. Will they be there? Have they hatched specifically this year, not in theory? Should I cancel my trip? I'm so bugphobic

- Hi Katie,
I hope I can put you at ease about our Florida love bugs, which tend to come out in the spring and again in the fall for a few weeks, typically in September.
I live in Central Florida and never notice the bugs unless I am driving a long distance on the interstate. Last weekend, my husband and I drove from our house in St. Petersburg to Tallahassee in northern Florida and there were lots of bugs on our windshield and the front of our car when we got there.
I'm heading to the Walt Disney World resort later this week, too, and while I suspect I may find more of the bugs on the front of my car when I arrive, I don't expect them to be obvious in the parks.
Besides the annoyance of having them on the car (they can damage the paint), the bugs are harmless. They don't sting or bite and they aren't very tood at flying (which is why they get taken out by cars so easily). I can't recall ever being aware of them as I have walked around the theme parks at Walt Disney World or any other time I've been outside during the love bug weeks, even during early morning runs.
And, there's a good chance that the fall hatching season will be over by the time you arrive at the end of the month. The bugs usually are only around for three or four weeks, and I know they've been visible at least two weeks already this month.
I hope that helps. I'd hate for the bugs to keep you from a wonderful visit to the Walt Disney World resort. I truly do not think they will be an issue for you.
Please let me know if I can answer any other last-minute questions for you. Maybe I'll see you in the parks later this week!
