Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • How much spending money should I put aside for 4 y/o when he sees a souvenir he wants. I figure one souvenir per park, nothing outrageously priced. Want to load a disney gift card strickly for this purpose. Our plans, 1 day each theme park & 1 1/2 days

  • Hi Krystle,

I went shopping today and it took me about 2 minutes to remember why I'm not a fan of malls. Parking is stressful, the in-store employees are often less than helpful, and I have a hard time getting excited about the things I need to buy.

However, shopping at Walt Disney World is a game changer for me! A phrase you often hear coming out of my mouth is: "Hey, can we check out that gift shop?"

The gift shops around Walt Disney World are staffed by cast members who are very helpful and friendly. I'm used to having mall employees roll their eyes when I ask a question, but the cast members at Walt Disney World will go out of their way to help me. Plus, the souvenirs you can buy are way cool!

Now that I've given a ringing endorsement for the gift shops at Walt Disney World, I think I should take a crack at answering your question! You're probably bracing yourself for me to say that you'll need hundreds of dollars for your son's souvenirs, right?

(I think my answer is going to surprise you!)

I really like your idea of having him choose one modest souvenir from each theme park. In fact, some of my favorite souvenirs from Disney vacations as a child were small keepsakes (e.g. keychains, pencils, books, etc.).

(No joke - many of them still adorn my office!)

That being said, I think a $50 budget for your son's souvenirs would be sufficient. That would be perfect for three small keepsakes and one that's a little more substantial (e.g. shirt, hat, toy, etc.).

Here's a little tip from your buddy Derek:

If you're planning to stay at one of the Walt Disney World resort hotels, you can have your souvenirs sent back to your resort hotel free of charge!

I hope that helps! Please feel free to write back if you should have any additional questions and I'll be happy to help in any way that I can.

    Best regards,
    Derek
