Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel
- Hi Darcie! I saw in your bio that you have a daugher with Down syndrome...I have an 6-year old son with Down syndrome and wanted to know some tips for planning a trip with a child with special needs.

- Tara, here are some tips that hopefully will give you a great start! Low muscle tone issues can make park touring difficult so bring a stroller and request a room close to the dining areas and pool of your hotel. If you've not been to Walt Disney World before, research the various attractions at all four theme parks ahead of time so that you know which ones your son will enjoy and which ones you should either prepare for or avoid altogether. For instance, my daughter doesn't tolerate loud noises so we bring a box of disposable earplugs and put them on her before noisy shows like MuppetVision 3D. You should also stop in at Guest Services when you arrive at the park and talk to the cast member there about the specific limitations your son has. Ask if they can offer any advice or assistance that will help your family navigate the parks.
Just a bit of planning before you leave home makes a big difference. I know my daughter absolutely loves Disney World and making those slight accomodations for her has never been difficult. If you have any questions about specific attractions, or restaurants and how my daughter has tolerated them, I would be happy to offer my experiences. Happy Planning!
