Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • My son has autism. What does Disney do for kids with autism that can not wait in long lines? I will be with my 2 year old, 6 year old and husband. Can all 4 of us get on a ride with out waiting in line?

  • Hi Sherry,

Thanks for submitting this question to me.  The answer is to your question is absolutely, "yes"!  I recommend that your first stop when you enter any of the parks is at Guest Relations.  In the Magic Kingdom, it is located as you enter the park to your left in City Hall.  Explain your son's needs, limitations and any of your concerns to the Cast Member (CM) who assists you, and you will be issued a "Guest Assistance Card"  (GAC) for the length of your stay.  (You will not need to get a new GAC at each park.)  The card will help cast members who operate the rides know that your family should be permitted to use an alternative entrance when you ride.  While this does not mean that you should expect no wait, your wait will generally be significantly reduced.  In addition, if you plan to keep your children in a stroller, mention this to the CM as well, because you will also be issued a special sticker that will enable you to keep your kids inside the stroller, and access attractions via a wheelchair entrance at some locations.

I think you will find that Disney is a very accommodating destination for individuals of all needs and abilities.  Many families with Autism have detailed their accounts, including some great travel tips at allears.net.  Simply search "autism" from the home page.

I hope your kids have a Disney vacation as magical as they are!
