- I heard that things are changing w/people with disabilities to access rides. I have a 19yr old w/mental impairment, heat intolerance etc. What are our options now? Coming in Nov.

- Hi Michelle!
As a Mom with a special needs son, I completely understand your concerns. The new Disability Access Service Card will officially replace the Guess Assistance Card on October 9th. Until the new program is fully implemented on October 9th, we may not have a lot of the details. From everything I'm reading to obtain a Disability Access Service Card, you will need to visit Guest Relations. The process will take a few minutes. For those Guests that are unable to wait in regular queues, you will need to visit a Cast Member at whichever attraction you'd like to enjoy and receive a return time. You'll only be able to obtain a return time for one attraction at a time. During your wait, you can relax, get lunch or whatever you'd like to do. When you return, you'll be able to enter through an alternate entrance which will likely be the FASTPASS entrance for most attractions.
From everything I'm reading, a doctor's note will still not be required. I am going to be down in a couple of days and will do some "in the field" research if you'd like to check back with me a bit later. I have always had faith in Disney and have to have faith that they will continue to offer their Guests with disabilities as much assistance as they can while being fair to all Guests. As with anything new, I am sure the new system will take a little getting used to and will require a little patience from everyone while people adjust.
Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison V.
