Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel
- My son wears a Cochlear Implant and I am nervous about the possiblity of it coming off while riding rides. If it were to come off, could we contact someone to let them know so it could be found. They are very expensive.

- Hi Namona,
I can certainly understand your concern about your son's cochlear implant. Is there any way your son could secure the device before boarding the thrill rides in the Disney theme parks? For instance, is there a knit cap with a snug fit that he could put on before the ride? It is really critical that you secure the device before the ride because, although Disney Cast Members will go out of their way to return lost items to guests, there are no guarantees that a small item such as the one worn by your son will be found if lost on one of the rides.
If you notice that the device is lost as you exit the ride, alert the nearest Cast Member immediately. They will keep their eyes open for the lost item and will return it to Lost and Found at the Guest Services desk of the theme park you were visiting when the item was lost. If the item is not found until after the park has closed for the day, the found item will be returned to Lost and Found at the Ticket and Transportation Center near the Magic Kingdom parking lot. While many guests find their lost items through this route, many items are never recovered. Therefore the best strategy is to prevent the loss of the item in the first place.
I encourage you to ask Cast Members as you are entering the thrill rides in the Disney theme parks what the ride vehicles look like. Some are structured in such a way that they might make the loss of your son's cochlear implant more likely. For instance, the Rock 'N Roller Coaster in Disney's Hollywood Studios has restraints that fit right against the head. It seems like this might be a high risk ride for losing a device like the one your son wears.
With a little advance planning, I'm sure you and your son can minimize the chance that your son will lose his cochlear implant. I hope your family has a truly amazing vacation!
