Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel
- We are scheduled to arrive at Disney World February 13th, 2012. I just found out I need surgery for my foot. I'm concerned about spending my vacation in a walking boot. Will likely need wheelchair part of the time. What do I need to do to plan this?

- Hi there Lori.
First, I'd to put your mind at ease that visiting Walt Disney World with ambulatory challenges is really quite a snap with a little advanced planning. I have experience with a family member that required a standard wheelchair for part of our trip unexpectedly when she developed back pain and the cast members were so very helpful and accommodating.
You'll want to start by perusing these two sections of the Disney website for everything from renting a wheelchair to accessing attractions and transportation. Then, be sure to review this answer provided by Disney Moms Panelist Susan for details on obtaining a Guest Assistance Card. The GAC provides cast members with information on how best to make your Disney Day as full-access as posssible.
Another great source for information on navigating the parks with a wheelchair is the unofficial website: www.disneyonwheelsblog.com. Offering plenty of personal stories and trip reports, this is a nice resource from the point of view of the vacationer on wheels.
Wishing you a speedy recovery on your foot surgery and a pixie dusted vacation this February!
