Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • Going to WDW Dec, 2011. 6 yr old has autism, hypotonia and heat intolerance. Will get GAC pass. Need to have a stroller in the parks. How can I handle this since you can't make reservation? Will I be able to get band so he can wait in line in stroller?

  • Hi Jennifer,

WDW is an AMAZING place for Guests with special needs. It should be a little cooler in Dec so hopefully that will help with your son's heat intolerance.

You're correct, advanced reservations for strollers are not accepted. Stroller Rentals are on a 1st come 1st serve basis & quantities are limited. I'm not sure which part of Dec you're planning to visit. If its towards the end of the month when crowd levels are likely to be higher, I'd recommend getting to the parks early.

Strollers must remain in the park from which they were rented but you are only required to pay one rental fee per day. If you plan to visit more than one park in a day, save your receipt & present it at the stroller rental location at the next park. Keep in mind that being able to get a stroller in the next park is not guaranteed. If you are concerned about availability, you may want to rent from a local vender. even offers special needs strollers.

In order to use a stroller in line, there are a couple of things you need to help facilitate this. When you are at Guest Relations getting the Guest Assistance Card (GAC), tell them that he uses a stroller instead of a wheelchair. They'll need to stamp the GAC to indicate that "Guests can use their stroller as a wheelchair" in addition to the "Guests can use an alternate attraction entrance, where available". Also be sure to request the red band which indicates his stroller is being used as a wheelchair. Put it in a location Cast Members can easily see - I put it on the handle. If you don't have the stamps & band, you will be asked to park the stroller in designated stroller parking areas for an attraction.

If your son has any comfort items, be sure to bring them. If he becomes agitated or upset, remember to breathe - it will be okay.  Wishing you many magical memories :-) Allison
